KINGSFORD, Mich. — Unbeaten Kingsford held off Marquette 42-26 on Friday night at Flivver Field, ending the Sentinels’ six-game winning streak in the regular-season finale.
Jake Lockhart ran for two touchdowns and quarterback Blake Tomasoski accounted for three more, two rushing and one passing, as the Flivvers finished the regular season 9-0. Kingsford led 14-0 early and 21-13 at halftime, then pulled away in the third quarter on Tomasoski’s fourth-down touchdown pass to Brock Flaminio and Dom Fredrickson’s interception return for a touchdown.
Winston Leonard kept Marquette in it with four touchdown passes: two to Skyler Blackburn, one to Brody Clements and an 84-yarder to Evan Brown. A recovered onside kick gave the Sentinels a late chance at 42-26, but Jack Keough was stopped about three inches short on fourth-and-6.
Marquette (6-3), the Big North Conference champion, now awaits the state playoff pairings.
